In August 2024, InterGreat Education Group (IEG) officially received the prestigious accreditation from AEGIS – The Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students!
Although there are hundreds, if not thousands, of guardians and guardianship organisations in the UK, only a few dozen are accredited by AEGIS! 👇

AEGIS is the UK’s most authoritative and professional accreditation body for international student guardianship—comparable to an ISO certification for the guardianship industry.
Founded in 1994, AEGIS is committed to safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of international students during their time studying in the UK. It evaluates guardianship organisations through a stringent process based on UK government laws and standards and conducts regular inspections to ensure continuous compliance.
For international students in the UK—especially those under 18—UK government regulations state that if parents are not living in the UK to care for their child, they must appoint a guardian to assume responsibility and act on their behalf.
A suitable guardian (or guardianship organisation) is vital for a child’s safety and wellbeing while living in the UK. The role of a guardian goes far beyond just holding a title—they play a significant part in the student’s life.
UK schools and the Home Office strongly recommend that families choose AEGIS-accredited guardianship providers.
Responsibilities of an AEGIS-accredited guardian include:
Facilitating communication between the child and their school
Monitoring the student’s health and wellbeing
Providing emotional and practical support
Arranging safe and appropriate accommodations during school holidays
Acting as the student’s 24/7 emergency contact while in the UK
Among all the responsibilities, holiday planning and handling emergencies are among the most critical.
In summary, AEGIS accreditation is not only a legal requirement, but also aligns with the expectations of UK boarding schools and visa policies. It ensures international students are protected and supported whenever they are outside of school or without their parents.
